In Ayurveda, illness is understood as a problem of balance—we speak of the doshas. That is why every Ayurvedic treatment aims to restore balance in both body and mind. Panchakarma therefore focuses on inner and outer wellbeing: it supports healing, relieves illness, and helps stabilise a healthy state—physically as well as emotionally.
Over the years, the body can accumulate many kinds of toxins through diet, environmental pollution, smoking, alcohol, and other influences. In Ayurveda, these toxins are called mala and ama. Panchakarma is designed to help remove them from the body, because they are believed to block cells, weaken energy, and contribute to serious health problems. In this way, Panchakarma can sustainably improve quality of life, increase energy, and help protect the body from harmful influences. It is used for a wide range of conditions, including rheumatism, limitations in mobility, chronic pain and headaches, anxiety, stress, metabolic disorders, allergies, and more.
The word “Panchakarma” comes from Sanskrit and is made up of two parts: “Pancha” means “five”, and “karma”means “actions” or “cleansing procedures.” As the name suggests, the body is cleansed step by step in up to five stages. The exact cleansing method depends on the individual constitution of the patient, which is understood in Ayurveda through the three doshas: Vata, Pitta, and Kapha.
Before Panchakarma begins, a preparatory and mobilising phase takes place, known as Purvakarma. This is followed by the active cleansing phase, Panchakarma itself. Finally, the body is strengthened and stabilised again in the final phase, known as Paschat Karma.
These are the five cleansing methods of Panchakarma:
Vamana Karma:
This emesis therapy is used for Kapha imbalances. It supports detoxification through medically supervised therapeutic vomiting.
Virechana Karma:
This purgation therapy is used for Pitta imbalances. Natural medicines are taken to eliminate toxins and harmful accumulations through the bowels.
Nasya Karma:
This nasal therapy is used for Kapha imbalances, especially for cleansing the sinuses and supporting allergy treatment. Herbal juices, powders, and oils are administered through the nose in drops or by inhalation to clear mucus and accumulated impurities.
Vasti Karma:
This enema therapy is used for Vata imbalances. Liquids, oils, herbal waters, and plant-based milk mixtures are introduced through the rectum to help flush toxins from the body. This method is considered especially effective because many harmful substances enter the body through the digestive system.
Raktha Mokshana:
This traditional bloodletting therapy is an ancient method sometimes performed with medicinal leeches. It is used to remove impurities from specific areas of the body, support blood cleansing, and address Pitta imbalances.

We create an individual welcome for you, depending on your arrival time. Some guests arrive in the middle of the night, while others arrive in the morning or during the day.
You will always be welcomed personally by our team and our doctors. First, you will enjoy a soothing drink so you can relax after your journey. After that, you can choose: either we show you around the park and explain the next steps, or you rest for a while in your accommodation first.
As soon as possible, depending on your arrival time, you will receive a welcome massage with your therapist. We place great importance on the personal connection between therapist and guest, because trust is an essential part of the healing process.
Your first doctor consultation will also take place shortly after arrival. Together with our Ayurvedic specialists, you will create an individual treatment plan tailored to your personal needs and goals. This is also the time to discuss your medical history, allergies, and any dietary preferences or requirements.
Your treatment program can then begin properly. In Ayurveda, the first step is often detoxification (purgation). This can be physically and emotionally demanding for the body and therefore requires special care and supervision. This phase usually lasts one day. Your doctor will check on you, and the more demanding cleansing process will be balanced throughout the day with soothing and calming treatments.
After that, the treatment plan varies greatly from guest to guest. You will receive 6 Ayurvedic treatments per day. We try to schedule them as efficiently as possible so that you can still enjoy the rest of your day. At the same time, some treatments require certain rest periods in order to achieve the best results.
Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are served in our Ayurveda restaurant. Great care is taken to ensure that your meals match your treatment plan. Our chefs and service team are in close contact with our doctors, so you are always well looked after.
Some guests enjoy going on an excursion after their treatments and visiting nearby sights in Sri Lanka. We also offer optional activities ourselves. In every case, we make sure that your treatment success is not affected.
Here are the most important points again:
There is no need to worry about your arrival. Ayurveda is about calm, balance, and relaxation—and we want to offer you that from the very moment you book, through a smooth and stress-free process.
That is why we offer a level of flexibility that is highly unusual: you do not need to fix your travel date when making your booking. Otherwise, this often creates unnecessary stress—stress when booking flights, stress at work when arranging leave, stress when coordinating with travel companions, and more.
We avoid all of that very simply: you first send an inquiry for the treatment program that suits you best. We then send you a no-obligation offer. Once your deposit has been paid, your booking becomes active and your treatment place is reserved. After that, you can arrange your trip at your own pace and simply let us know your arrival date later. You may also change this date several times free of charge within 18 months. Your preferred travel period remains secure.
This gives you maximum flexibility and allows you to book without risk—calmly, easily, and without stress.
We recommend a stay of at least 14 days.
Just think about it: every, treatment program is rarely prescribed for only a few days. In most cases, they last one to two months. For that reason, we also recommend an Ayurvedic treatment program of at least two weeks. At the same time, your body and mind will benefit from every additional day.
At Tree of Life, you are guaranteed to receive the best available price for your treatment program. That is our best-price guarantee. If you find a comparable offer from another provider at better conditions, we will adjust our treatment price accordingly. This means you can always book with confidence, without worrying that another provider might offer more for less.
With every treatment program, you enjoy full board. All non-alcoholic drinks are included, and meals are usually served from our buffet, which is aligned with your dosha. Your Ayurveda doctor will advise you individually on nutrition, and great care is taken to ensure that your diet supports your treatment program in the proper Ayurvedic way.
When occupancy is very low—usually with fewer than 6 guests, for example on some days during the low season—our restaurant team may even cook exclusively for you and offer personal table service tailored to your dosha.
Our restaurant is fully accessible. Thanks to its open architecture, you feel as if you are dining in the middle of nature—which, in many ways, you are 😉
Vegans, vegetarians, and pescatarians can also fully enjoy our Ayurvedic cuisine. We serve a wide variety of vegan and vegetarian dishes every day, and once a week we also offer fish or poultry.
Our doctors will show you exactly how Ayurvedic nutrition can best support your personal healing process.
We always offer you the best possible price for your treatment program. You can find our current prices and special offers here.
We are also happy to advise you personally for any special requests.
No need to worry! A booking with us is completely risk-free for you. You can reschedule your treatment program several times free of charge and arrive at any time within 18 months.
So if you become ill or something unexpected comes up, that is of course unfortunate—but it will not cause you any loss. Simply let us know your new travel date.
This means your booking remains completely risk-free.

No problem! We’ll be happy to create your individual booking or a personalised offer together.

At the same time, Ayurveda can also support specific healing outcomes. It is especially valued for conditions such as limited mobility, burnout, cardiovascular problems, high blood pressure, women’s health issues, migraines, kidney problems, rheumatism, arthritis, digestive complaints, and many other health concerns.

Unfortunately, the media often follows the idea that “bad news sells well.” As a result, the reputation of many countries suffers—and sadly, Sri Lanka is sometimes one of them, unfairly.
There are no dangers in the country for travelers, and certainly not for guests who come to our Ayurveda clinic for treatment.
Even women traveling alone have been visiting us safely in Sri Lanka for 20 years.
You do not come to Sri Lanka as a tourist, but as a treatment guest. Ayurveda Paradise Maho is not a normal hotel, but an Ayurveda clinic officially registered as a hospital and open only to our treatment guests.
With us, you remain completely separate from social or political events in the country. We are a place of healing.
You can arrive and depart whenever you wish, and thanks to our large, unique, and enclosed healing park, you only come into contact with local residents if you want to. We place great importance on peace and safety, which is why our security staff keeps watch over the park around the clock. Thankfully, there have never been any unpleasant incidents. The people of Maho are peaceful and friendly.
We all often like to spend our holidays by the beach. However, if you are planning an Ayurvedic treatment program, we strongly recommend avoiding providers located by the sea. The reasons are very simple: Ayurveda is an ancient healing system based on natural, plant-based substances. Salt in the air, in the soil, and on your skin can damage Ayurvedic medicine and precious oils, reducing their effectiveness. In a place where salt is present in the air, the water, and on the skin, these active ingredients cannot fully develop their healing power, and the effects of the treatment are significantly reduced.
Unfortunately, “Ayurveda” is not a protected term in Sri Lanka. This means any hotel can advertise “Ayurveda,” but in many cases it is nothing more than wellness massage. That has little to do with the ancient healing tradition itself. So if you want a real Ayurvedic treatment program, please make sure you choose a licensed clinic. This is the only true sign of quality.
In addition, the beaches are crowded with tourists, and, as is common in many parts of Asia, there are often many stray dogs as well. This is not the right atmosphere for an Ayurvedic treatment program, where rest, recovery, and peace of mind are essential.
If you are travelling for an Ayurvedic treatment program, it is far better to choose a real Ayurveda clinic inland and avoid these issues. There, you benefit from oxygen-rich tropical air from the rainforest, ideal temperatures, plenty of space, and—especially with us in our enclosed healing park—no tourists and no stray dogs.
If you have any questions about this, we will be happy to advise you.
Tree of Life is located near Kandy, in the green highlands of Sri Lanka, surrounded by tropical nature and peaceful scenery. This setting offers the ideal atmosphere for rest, recovery, and authentic Ayurvedic treatments. At the same time, the location is central enough to make visits to many of Sri Lanka’s most famous sights easy and convenient.
You can arrange a driver, use public transport, or take a taxi. Many guests also join together in small groups during their stay to explore different places. This allows you to combine your treatment program with selected cultural experiences whenever you wish.
At Tree of Life, you can book an Ayurvedic treatment program starting from 12 treatment days. Shorter Ayurveda wellness stays or holiday-style Ayurveda packages are often available elsewhere from just a few nights. Many people therefore assume that this kind of “tourist Ayurveda” can deliver the same healing results as a proper Ayurvedic clinic. In reality, such offers are usually much closer to a wellness experience than to a true therapeutic treatment program.
If you are looking for real healing results, you should always choose a proper Ayurvedic treatment setting with trained doctors and authentic Ayurvedic expertise. Tree of Life offers exactly this combination in a peaceful natural environment in Sri Lanka.
In general treatment programs are rarely prescribed for only a few days. In most cases, they last several weeks. For this reason, we also recommend booking at least two weeks for an Ayurvedic treatment. At the same time, every additional day can further support your recovery, balance, and long-term wellbeing.
When you book with Tree of Life, you do not need to choose your travel date at the time of booking. There is no need to worry about your arrival right away. Ayurveda is about calm, balance, and relaxation—and we want to give you that feeling from the very beginning, including a smooth and stress-free booking process.
That is why we offer a level of flexibility many other providers do not. Fixing a travel date too early often creates unnecessary pressure: stress with flights, stress at work when arranging leave, or stress when coordinating with someone travelling with you.
We make this much easier. First, you book the treatment program that suits you best. Once your deposit has been received, your booking becomes active and your place is reserved. After that, you can arrange your trip at your own pace and simply send us your arrival date later. You can even change your travel date several times free of charge within 18 months. Your preferred travel period remains secure.
This gives you maximum flexibility and allows you to book without risk—calmly, easily, and without stress.
If you are not yet sure whether you want to travel, you can still send a booking inquiry at any time. This way, you will receive a concrete offer without making any commitment.
Your booking only becomes binding once the deposit has been paid. A booking inquiry alone does not create any obligation. This is part of how we protect you. Your inquiry is completely risk-free.
If you are simply unsure about when you would like to travel, we recommend paying the deposit soon after receiving your offer. This secures your treatment place and the current conditions, while giving you the flexibility to arrive at any time within 18 months. Your preferred travel period remains secure.
Your booking only becomes binding once the deposit has been paid. A booking inquiry alone does not create any obligation. This is part of how we protect you. A booking inquiry is completely risk-free.
Prices depend on the accommodation category you choose and the length of your stay. Our current base rate for one treatment day with full board is €130 per person, including accommodation and comprehensive Ayurvedic treatments.
With Tree of Life, you are guaranteed to receive the best available price for your treatment program. That is our best-price guarantee:
If you find a comparable offer from another provider at a lower price, we will adjust our treatment price accordingly. This means you can book with confidence, knowing that you will not receive more value elsewhere at a better rate.
We always guarantee you the best price and regularly offer new discounts depending on the season. That is why you will always find current special offers on our website.
A cancellation or withdrawal is almost never necessary, because you can reschedule your treatment program several times free of charge. If you become ill or something unexpected comes up and you are unable to travel, that is of course unfortunate—but it does not cause you any loss. You can simply choose a different arrival date instead.
If you still wish to cancel for any reason, that is of course also possible. You can find all details here.
You can do this very easily here. If you have any questions, you will also always find a contact person there.
You can apply for your visa online: Online Visa Application
Alternatively, you can also obtain your visa on arrival in Sri Lanka without difficulty. The visa fee is approximately USD 50 and can usually be paid in cash or by credit card.
When applying for the visa, please use the following address:
Tree of Life Ayurveda Resort
Yahalatenna – Kandy Rd, Kandy 20234,
Sri Lanka
If you plan to stay for more than 30 days, your visa can usually be extended locally after arrival.
You are especially well protected within our spacious and enclosed resort grounds. Nevertheless, we recommend that you check the latest official health advice with the relevant authorities before your trip.
Depending on your arrival time, your welcome at Tree of Life may vary. Some guests arrive late at night, while others arrive in the morning or during the day.
You will always be personally welcomed by our team and Ayurveda doctors and first enjoy a refreshing drink. After that, we will show you around the resort grounds and accompany you to your accommodation.
As soon as possible, depending on your arrival time, you will receive a welcome treatment and have your first doctor consultation. During this consultation, our Ayurveda specialists will create an individual treatment plan tailored to your personal needs and goals.
Your treatment program can then begin in full. You will receive 6 Ayurvedic treatments per day. We aim to schedule them as efficiently as possible so that you still have enough free time to relax and enjoy the day. At the same time, some treatments require specific rest periods in order to achieve the best possible effect.
Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are served in our Ayurveda restaurant. Special care is taken to ensure that your meals match your treatment plan and support your individual Ayurvedic process.
If you wish, you can also go on excursions after your treatments and visit nearby sights in Sri Lanka. In addition, activities are offered regularly, and participation is always optional. We make sure that these experiences fit around your treatment program and do not interfere with your recovery.
At Tree of Life, we offer you 6 Ayurvedic treatments per treatment day, including weekends. There are only two exceptions:
On the day of your arrival, we welcome you with a traditional ritual and introduce you to our Ayurveda doctors and therapists. The first treatments can be demanding for the body, especially after a long journey. As part of this welcome ritual, you will usually receive three special welcome treatments. If you arrive before 5:30 pm, this program is usually carried out on the day of arrival. Otherwise, your full treatment schedule of 6 treatments begins the following day.
For guests following a Panchakarma program, the body needs additional rest on the day after the cleansing treatment, because this process can be physically and mentally demanding. This is usually the second day after arrival. To support your recovery, our doctors first carry out a full check-up, followed by two special regenerative treatments on that day.
All treatments are tailored individually to your needs. Your personal treatment plan is discussed directly with our Ayurveda doctors.
The treatments are not measured by time, because each treatment has a different purpose. For example, it would not make sense to spend one full hour on a nasal cleansing treatment, while a synchronized oil massage may naturally require much more time. That is why we define the program by the number of treatments, not by fixed treatment length. Apart from the exceptions mentioned above, you receive 6 treatments per day.
In addition, yoga and meditation are also part of the program. Between treatments, rest and recovery periods are essential, because Ayurvedic healing methods can be demanding for the body and need time to unfold their full effect.
Of course, you can expect all the comforts we are able to offer: excellent Ayurvedic cuisine, attentive service, and a stay designed with genuine care in every detail. At the same time, Tree of Life is not a luxury hotel. The accommodations are thoughtfully and traditionally designed, with a strong connection to nature and an intentionally authentic atmosphere. You are welcome to explore our accommodation options here.
The resort is located in the tropical highlands of Sri Lanka, where the natural conditions are especially well suited for Ayurveda. Here, far away from the pace of Western consumer culture, you can still experience the traditional way of life, the simplicity, and the contentment of the local people. This sense of calm and satisfaction is an important part of Ayurveda itself.
Please note that we consciously preserve these qualities and do not present ourselves as a luxury hotel. As our guest, you are also stepping into the traditions and customs of Sri Lanka. We therefore kindly ask you to adapt your expectations to this setting, just as visitors in Western countries are also expected to respect local customs and ways of life.
The tropical forest is also, of course, the natural home of many animals. We therefore ask for your understanding that you may occasionally come across a frog, birds, or a small gecko. There is no danger. All of this is part of the nature we want to appreciate, because it is also part of what helps us heal, recover, and live well. If you have any questions, our team will be happy to help 😊
At Tree of Life, every treatment program is tailored individually to you. That is why no two treatment plans are exactly the same, and it is difficult to define a fixed treatment duration for each day. For example, time spent in our steam chamber—often used as part of allergy-related treatment—may take longer, while another application, such as a nasal cleansing treatment, may require less time.
For this reason, we do not define the program by treatment length. Instead, we guarantee six Ayurvedic treatments per day and take exactly the amount of time needed for you and your individual treatment plan.
You do not need to worry about boredom during your treatment program at all. We make sure of that in several ways:
The resort is located in a very central part of the country—so central that many of Sri Lanka’s major sights can be reached easily within a short time.
After your treatments, you are welcome to go on an excursion and explore nearby attractions in Sri Lanka. This can be done either on your own or together with small groups of other guests. We are always happy to help you plan and can also give you additional tips. Just ask at the reception on site :)
In addition, we also offer activities on a regular basis, and participation is always optional.

Thanks to its location in Sri Lanka’s central highlands, Tree of Life enjoys pleasant tropical weather throughout the year. Temperatures usually range from around 24°C at night to 32°C during the day.
From October to December, the tropical monsoon season brings regular rainfall. This is not a reason for concern—it is part of the natural rhythm of Sri Lanka and can be a beautiful experience in itself. During this time, the landscape becomes especially lush and vibrant, and the island’s herbs and plants thrive in the rich tropical climate. For many guests, this season feels particularly close to nature and deeply connected to the Ayurvedic environment.
If you prefer a treatment stay with as little rain as possible, the months from January to October are generally considered especially suitable.
During our high season from October to April, there are generally more guests on site than during the low season. Overall, however, the number of guests remains limited in order to maintain a peaceful and relaxing atmosphere. At full capacity, there are usually no more than 45 guests staying at the resort at the same time.
In exceptional situations, we may also admit guests with urgent needs at short notice.
You can view our packing list in advance here: Packing for your Ayurvedic treatment program: What should I bring? Ayurvedic treatment packing list
We recommend that you do not pack your newest clothes for the treatment program, as they may become marked during the treatments. A bathrobe for your treatments will of course be provided by us. However, we kindly ask you not to wear it in the restaurant area.

In Sri Lanka, you can generally pay by credit card in most places. This is usually only not possible in small shops or at local markets. In such cases, you can often pay in euros, or exchange money beforehand. You can do this at any bank, for example in Kandy itself, or simply at our reception.
